Expert DPF Cleaning

Automotive DPF Cleaning Walsall
Fix Limp Mode, Pass Your MOT & Avoid a Costly Replacement

If your diesel’s lost power, the DPF warning light is on, or your car has gone into limp mode — a blocked Diesel Particulate Filter is almost certainly the culprit. Left too long, it doesn’t just hurt performance. It builds backpressure that can destroy your turbo, and a failed DPF will put an immediate stop to any MOT.

We clean DPFs for all diesel vehicles — cars, vans, SUVs, trucks, and entire fleets — from our workshop in Walsall, serving the wider West Midlands. Most jobs are done the same day, at a fraction of what a replacement filter costs.

A blocked DPF doesn't just fail an MOT — the backpressure it creates can force oil into the intake, cause uncontrolled engine runaway, and write off a turbocharger worth over £1,000. Early cleaning is always the cheaper option.

DPF problems affect every type of diesel vehicle differently. Here's what we find most often, and how we fix it.

Passenger & Luxury Cars

Short urban journeys are the number one cause of blocked DPFs in everyday cars — the filter never gets hot enough to self-clean. We see it constantly on BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Volkswagen diesels. Our clean restores power, clears the warning light, and gets your car back out of limp mode.

Vans & Light Commercials

A blocked DPF on a van means downtime
and for a business, that costs real money. Since 2014, a tampered or missing DPF is an instant MOT failure.
We clean vans from Ford Transit to Mercedes Sprinter, quickly, with a turnaround that keeps you on the road.

SUVs & 4x4 Vehicles

Larger engines produce more soot, and SUV DPFs clog faster than most owners expect. The real danger here is backpressure — a severely blocked DPF forces exhaust gases backwards, and turbocharger failure is the result. We deep-clean the filter before it reaches that stage.

Trucks & Heavy Transport

HGVs and heavy commercials operate under strict emissions compliance. A blocked DPF isn’t just a performance issue — it’s a roadworthiness issue that DVSA can act on. We clean heavy-duty filters to get vehicles back within legal limits and keep your operators’ licence protected.

 Buses & Public Transport

Bus DPFs deal with constant stop-start cycles and rarely get the sustained motorway running needed for passive regeneration. We carry out high-capacity cleans for council fleets, private operators, and school transport — reducing emissions and keeping services running on schedule.

Fleet Maintenance

If you run multiple diesel vehicles, reactive repairs get expensive fast. We offer scheduled DPF cleaning programmes for fleets of any size across the West Midlands — so you’re fixing problems before they cause breakdowns, not after. Ask us about a plan tailored to your vehicles.

Why drivers across the West Midlands trust us with their DPF

What happens when you bring your vehicle in

No jargon, no surprises. Here’s exactly what our DPF cleaning process looks like from start to finish.

Diagnose & inspect

We start with a full diagnostic scan to read your fault codes and confirm the blockage level. The DPF is then removed and physically inspected — if it's cracked or beyond cleaning, we'll tell you honestly before any work begins, rather than charge you for a clean that won't last.

Professional deep clean & flow test

We use specialist cleaning equipment to flush out soot, ash, and cerium deposits from the filter cells — not a chemical additive or a partial regeneration cycle. Once cleaned, we flow-test the DPF to verify it's performing within spec before it goes anywhere near your vehicle.

Refit, reset & road test

The filter goes back on, all fault codes are cleared, and we road-test the vehicle ourselves. The warning light should be gone and full power restored before you collect it — we don't hand keys back until we're satisfied it's right.

Common questions about DPF cleaning

My car's gone into limp mode — is it definitely the DPF?

Limp mode can be triggered by a few things, but a blocked DPF is one of the most common culprits in diesel vehicles. The safest thing to do is get it diagnosed properly — we'll scan the fault codes and tell you exactly what's causing it, rather than guess.

Will a blocked DPF cause my car to fail its MOT?

Yes. Since February 2014, a DPF that has been removed or tampered with is an automatic MOT failure. Even a severely blocked DPF can fail on emissions. If you've got an MOT coming up and the DPF light is on, get it sorted beforehand.

Can a blocked DPF really damage my turbo?

It can, yes — and it's more common than most people realise. When the DPF is heavily blocked, exhaust backpressure builds up and can force oil past the turbo seals. In severe cases it causes what's known as "diesel runaway," which can cause serious engine damage. Getting the DPF cleaned early is far cheaper than a turbo replacement.

Why hasn't the DPF cleaned itself? Doesn't it do that automatically?

It should — diesels are designed to self-clean (regenerate) on longer motorway-type runs. But if your driving is mostly short urban journeys, the engine never gets hot enough for regeneration to complete. The soot builds up over time until the filter is blocked solid.

How much does DPF cleaning cost, compared to a replacement?

A new OEM DPF can cost anywhere from £500 to well over £2,000 fitted, depending on the vehicle. Our cleaning service is significantly less — contact us for a quote specific to your vehicle. If the filter is genuinely beyond cleaning, we'll tell you upfront rather than waste your money.

Do you offer DPF cleaning for business fleets near Birmingham?

Yes — fleet work is a big part of what we do. Whether you've got two vans or twenty trucks, we can put together a scheduled maintenance plan that keeps your vehicles compliant and minimises downtime. Get in touch to discuss what would work for you.
